In addition, it would be very nice to be able to deploy multiple software packages and chose which ones get applied in which order. It makes it easier to deploy in cases where dependencies are necessary without having to write custom scripts.

You can do the multiple package deployment using 'Add More' option in the software deployment.  Additionally, the software added first would get deployed first.  First In First Out basis.
